If you’ve recently purchased your first motorcycle, you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the new information you’re absorbing. New maintenance requirements, new driving techniques, and even new and unfamiliar motorcycle laws are a lot for first-time owners to try and take in. However, there’s no need to panic! Below, we’ve written up a few helpful tips to help you get the hang of motorcycle ownership!

Check Local Ordinances

Before you put rubber on pavement, it’s extremely important that you check local state and city ordinances regarding motorcycles. Unlike cars, motorcycle laws can fluctuate quite a bit from place to place, with some states requiring you to use certain types of helmets, and others putting age restrictions on drivers and passengers.

No Passengers

Just because you’ve gotten your motorcycle license, doesn’t mean you're ready to ride with a passenger. Riding with another person often adds an extra level of difficulty to motorcycle riding that you’re likely not ready for as a first-time rider. Instead, we recommend taking things slowly and practicing your skills on residential streets and low-traffic areas and eventually highways and busy streets as you improve. Once you feel you’ve mastered your motorcycle’s controls, feel free to grab your friend—and an extra helmet—and take off.
