While dirt bikes are designed to travel across all terrain, including dirt, mud, and even sand, these vehicles do have their limits. While off-limit areas for dirt bikes are far and few between, there are a few you should be aware of before you go riding. Below, we’ve put together a short list of places you’ll want to avoid the next time you take your dirt bike for a spin.

Smooth Pavement

While your dirt bike is equipped to handle the rough terrain of a nature trail or a dirt racing arena, the smooth pavement of a city street or sidewalk will actually damage the impressive tread on your bike’s tires. As a result, we strongly advise against riding your dirt bike in the city unless you own a dual-purpose model that’s designed to handle both all-terrain and smooth concrete.

Construction Sites

Construction sites can be found both in and out of city limits, and it’s not unlikely that you’ll run into one of these areas sooner rather than later. While it may be tempting to try and travel across the area's difficult terrain or test your skills by navigating through the various obstacles on site, we strongly advise against this. Not only is it likely to be considered trespassing, but the work site will more than likely contain dangerous materials or tools that could seriously injure you as you ride.

Nature Reserves

While riding within a nature reserve may not be dangerous—although you never know how wildlife may react to your dirt bike’s loud engine and quick speed—it is often strictly prohibited. This is because the loud roar of the bike and the fumes coming from the engine are likely to upset or disturb the reserve’s inhabitants, including local plant life.
